Tasting Notes

A deliciously irresistible number from Western Australia, elegance, finesse and complexity are the characteristics which set Devil's Lair and Fifth Leg apart, rivalling any. These characteristics are expressed strongly in all Fifth Leg wines, which reflect the combination of geology, geography and climate that is unique to Devil's Lair estate. A great start to the growing season, spring and summer delivered good ripening conditions that will go down as a great year for reds. Excellent fruit and flavour development, the resultant Cabernet Merlot Shiraz Cuvee exhibits bright varietal fruit with lovely soft tannins. The wine was barrel aged for twelve months in a combination of American and French oak. Approx alcohol 14%
Bright ruby red with purple hues. A concentrated fruit focused nose, a complex array of cassis, dark berry and chocolate aromas, supported by well-integrated cedary oak. Juicy on the palate, cherries and plums from the tender Merlot component, the underlying chocolateyness of the subtle oak combined with lovely Shiraz spice (and all things nice). A complex and inviting wine, very classically Fifth Leg, the bright inviting fruit flavours and full mid-palate are finished by subtle but present tannins. Have it with cheery company and good cheeses, or at relaxed dinners in your favourite bistro, Fifth Leg's a wine of great balance and harmony, eminently drinkable now, and will comfortably hang out in the cellar
