Tasting Notes

Doug Bowen restricts vine yield to a cropping level that he feels delivers maximum quality. A regimen of tight pruning leads to wines which are full in body, and offer great depth of colour and longevity. The grapes were harvested, then crushed within an hour. Back at the winery, grapes were fermented at cool temperatures, then aged in French and Russian oak. After completion of malolactic and racking, the Bowen Estate Cabernet was aged in the original barrels for twenty two months, approximately of which, one third was fine new oak. French and Russian oak barriques were used during maturation, infusing fine complexity into the aged wine. Approx alcohol 15.0%
Deep in colour with vibrant reddish purple hues. Scented with dark plums, berries and cedar, underlying meaty complexity, uplifting bright fruit aromatics with layers of intense blackberry. Generous, rich fruit characters are in abundance on the palate, which balance the powerful structure of this wine. There are dense inky fruit flavours and lightly roasted French oak combined with lively and fresh, firm tannins.
